We would like to thank our partners and colleagues
On Wednesday morning Salten Salmon officially opened the doors of the new fillet factory in Rønvikleira. CEO John Erik Rønning opened the ceremony by talking about the project work over the last two years, six weeks after Prime Minister Erna Solberg was given a tour of the factory.
– We owe a big thank you to our partners and our suppliers. And to all colleagues who have contributed to the work involved in getting here, thank you very much. You have been fantastic, comments John Erik from the stage.
Two years of work
In 2017, it was announced that Insula would cease production at their fillet factory and smokehouse in Bodø. Geir Wenberg, CEO of Salten Aqua, was one of the people originally behind the project:
– When at the beginning of 2017 it became apparent that Insula would cease production at their fillet factory and smokehouse in Bodø, I and Lars Arve Jakobsen, CEO of Coop Nordland had the same idea: Can we restart fillet production in Bodø? Can we salvage the jobs and the resources? Yes we can, says Geir Wenberg.
Creating jobs and resources
Mayor Ida Pinnerød got the honour of cutting the tape and proclaiming Salten Salmon formerly opened. Referring to Trygve Hoff’s song “Jentan på fileten”, which is about women working in the fish fillet industry, Mayor Ida Pinnerød highlighted the importance of workplaces actively attracting competent people, from both inside and outside Bodø. Although John Erik Rønning has come from Salmarin Trøndelag, he is originally from Bodø. The same applies to quality manager Aleksander L. Pedersen, who has come home from Ås.
– This creates jobs and resources here in Bodø, says Geir Wenberg. “Salten Salmon would not been possible without great partners and colleagues, therefore we are directing a big thank you to everyone who has been involved in this project.
Salten Aqua would like to give a big thank you to everyone who has contributed to the fact that Bodø can now process and fillet its own salmon.
